It’s National Clean Air Day so we asked specialist main contractor, NeuxPark, for their thoughts on why air quality should be a priority in your next office move or refurbishment.
People in the UK, on average, spend over 90% of their day indoors. With that in mind, for those who work in an office, getting the air quality right is of huge importance. We know the physical and mental benefits that come from being in clean air outside. For example, our mood is improved; we are more relaxed which can decrease blood pressure. Replicating this in an office can make a valuable difference for all the staff.
The science behind achieving better air quality occurs by reducing the CO2 and increasing the oxygen. Monitoring this closely in an office will provide a continual supply of lung cleansing, energy increasing air flow. The oxygen flowing around the body can lower blood pressure and heart rates, it strengthens immune systems leaving us healthier and better equipped to fight infection. Higher levels of oxygen also lead to better concentration, mental function and memory. A more productive workforce!
A company that prioritises their office air quality are investing in the health and well-being of all their staff. Since Covid 19 there has been a huge improvement in recognising the importance of air quality. Poor air quality leads to a higher risk of spreading airborne infections which in turn leads to illness amongst staff. Pollutants in the air can also be a trigger for allergies and asthma, as well as other symptoms such as ear, nose and throat irritations, fatigue and nausea.
The evidence is conclusive: the air quality in an office not only supports us whilst in the workspace; the benefits will have repercussions that will positively impact both physical and mental health when we get home.
